About

Born in Wozi, Zorzor District, Lofa county, Liberia, Sakui W. G. Malakpa graduated from Albert Academy in Freetown before going to Florida State University from where, in three years, he graduated cum laude. He also earned a masters degree from FSU with a 4.0 GPA. He matriculated to Harvard University from where he earned a second masters degree and a doctorate. He then moved to the University of Toledo as a professor; he is now a full professor with tenure. Also, while working at the University of Toledo, Dr. Malakpa returned to school and earned a law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law.

From his teenage years, Dr. Malakpa wrote short stories in English and Loma, his language; he still writes short stories in a series entitled, Around the Fireplace: Sakui’s Short Story Series. In addition, he has published refereed journal articles, several novels, and one academic work Empathetic Planning Implementation. He also published the biography of H.E. Joseph N. Boakai, former Vice President and now President of the Republic of Liberia. His latest novel is Black Professor, White University.

Dr. Malakpa is a public speaker who has presented academic papers throughout the United States, Africa, and Europe. He frequently speaks to civic, political, and professional organizations. He served as visiting professor to the University of Zululand in South Africa and Cuttington University in Liberia. Dr. Malakpa is currently the President of Lutheran University of Liberia and Special Assistant to President Boakai of Liberia. He is married to Sue Malakpa and is blessed with children.
